Japanese Inari Pancakes
The 1300th anniversary festival of Fushimi Inari Taisha is a grand festival exclusively for Fushimi Inari Taisha. The shrine has many vermilion torii gates and stone fox statues that symbolize messengers. For a long time, people regarded foxes that caught wild mice as messengers of the god of harvest and respected them very much. Fox pancakes are given to pilgrims as souvenirs of their pilgrimages or activities, and are also distributed to everyone as souvenirs as a token of the gods' divine virtue.
The taste and ingredients of the fox pancake remain traditional, made from a mixture of white miso, sesame seeds and sugar mixed with wheat flour, and each piece is carefully hand-baked. The light sweetness of white miso and the aroma of toasted sesame seeds combine to create a rich aroma and taste when chewed.
